Message from the President
Happy New Year to you all!

I have been over-seas over the winter break and really enjoyed snow and sunshine both in Sweden and in Norway, but it is good to be back home again. Nothing is as sweet as walking through the door and realize that tonight... I can sleep in my own bed again. I hope you all have had a relaxing and rejuvenating time as well.

This spring promises to be full of events and we begin with the upcoming meeting when Wanda Yang Temko will present a program about Chinese Folk Songs and strategic media skills. You might be familiar with Wanda's voice, she is a radio presenter at WABE and sings with me in the ASOC. She is a fun and entertaining person and I believe we will hear a great program. Also get ready for the Local Auditions, deadlines are approaching quickly, as will the various Federation Festivals. Please make time in your busy schedule to come and support your local organization. I have noticed a trend that once the winter break is over, we see fewer members attend the meetings. It is a great loss for us all when you can't come. Help us become an even friendlier and stronger organization with your participation. I want to get to know you and you will find new friendships and musical inspiration.

We are looking at repeating our successful fall teacher concert. If you are interested in participating, please send me an e-mail at mkransmo@earthlink.net. September 2009 is the goal! If you are unsure about solo performance, find another musician and form a duo or trio. At this point I don't know if we will have more than one piano available to perform on, but if need arises, I will look into the cost and the board will make that decision.

See you soon at Steinway Pianos on January 13th,
Maria

MTNA 2009 National Conference

The MTNA 2009 National Conference is held in Atlanta this year from March 28 through April 1. You can get more information at https://members.mtna.org/Conference2009/index.html by using the options on the left navigation bar. Also, you can receive the special Conference rate at the Westin Peachtree Plaza by reserving your room no later than February 22, 2009.

Do you want to join us in a Group Certification Effort?

Like anything else, it seems easier to be held accountable by outside forces...so if you are contemplating Certification this year, please join us for a Support Group for Certification. I don't know about you, but I have thought about it for a few years, but just seem to postpone it for the next day, next week, next year. You know the story! If you are interested in this, we could set up a group to walk this paper-filled road together and to help support each other. Please let me know via email at mkransmo@earthlink.net of your interest and I will take help from our Certification chair, LaNelle, as well as Robin Engleman and any other certified member to get us started.

I look forward to hearing from you. I am committed this year to getting it DONE!

Maria
Placement

If you are in need of students (piano, vocal, etc.), please contact Sharleen Mancini at smancini33@comcast.net. Please include the following information:

  • Your geographic area and neighborhood
  • What ages and levels of students you seek
  • What performance opportunities in which your students participate such as Fall Festival, Local Audition, Celebrate with Music, ABRSM, Piano Guild, Federation, etc.
  • How you want to be contacted by potential students (via phone or email)
I am starting a new list for this year, so even if you have been on the list in the past, please send me your information.

Please give my name and email address (not my phone number, please) to potential students that you cannot accommodate.
