| October Program |
The October meeting will take place on the second THURSDAY, the 18th at 9:00
a.m. Please be prompt! This meeting is a joint program of the Atlanta,
Cobb, North Dekalb and Gwinnett chapters. Business will be brief and concise in
order that we allow the most time to our Dalcroze Speaker, Dr. Annabelle Joseph.
She requests that you dress comfortably for movement. It will not be anything
strenuous but you will be more comfortable in slacks. Also, you should expect
to remove your shoes or bring soft-soled slippers. Shoes restrict movement and
make too much sound which distracts from listening to the music. Sneakers are
okay if they are not heavy.
The Dalcroze Method known as Eurhythmics is a unique approach to music
learning developed by the Swiss composer and educator Emile Jaques-Dalcroze.
The most significant and far-reaching innovation that Dalcroze brought to the
learning process is the recognition that experiencing meaningful rhythmic
movement associated with ear-training and improvisation facilitates and
reinforces the understanding of music concepts, enhances musicianship and
focuses awareness on the physical demands of artistic performance. When
Dalcroze was asked to describe his method, he wrote that it was easy for him to
explain how he conceived the idea, to quote the results and to demonstrate some
of the exercises, but to obtain a better understanding of the method, personal
experience was essential.

| Fall Festival |
| |
The NFMTA-sponsored Fall Festival is right around the corner on Saturday,October
27, 2007 at Northview High School. The Festival is a
noncompetitive one-day event that is open to all students of NFMTA members,
regardless of age or playing level. Last year we had a very successful Festival
with over 300 students participating! The goal of our Festival is to provide to
students a non-competitive performing experience, with encouraging and
constructive comments from the judge. It can be a great self-esteem builder and
first-time festival experience especially for young students. While non-competitive, each
judge may select outstanding performers to receive small cash "scholarship"
awards.
Reminder: teachers must work their own assignments and cannot send
someone in their place. Teachers must also stay for the entirety of their work
schedule.
Thank you to Jenny Sutton, Paula Wamsley and Sharleen Mancini for all their
diligence in making Fall Festival a sure success!

| If you are in need of students, please contact Debbie Dickensheets at
dickensheets@comcast.net. Include the following information:
|
| |
-
Your geographic area and neighborhood
-
What ages and levels of students you seek
-
What performance opportunities in which your students participate such as Fall
Festival, Local Audition, Celebrate with Music, ABRSM, Piano Guild, Federation,
etc.
-
Your educational background
|
Please let me know if you would like to be referred as a teacher.
If you were on the list last year and still need students let me know that also
so I can keep sending referrals. Last year most inquiries were for piano
teachers. That does not have to be the case if other teachers are interested in
participating.
Please give my name and email to potential students you cannot accommodate.
That's where most of our student referrals are coming from--other teachers
within our organization.
