Message from the President
Dear Teachers,

It is with great pleasure I can say that this past weekend's Teacher Concert was a wonderful event and a great success. If you weren't there, you really missed some gorgeous music making. My warmest Thank You's go to the performers; Junghee Lee, Ashley Craig-Diaz, Renee Holliman, Debra Terning, Holly Diclaudio, Anna Arshavskaya, Daniel Arshavsky, Marianna Carroll, Lena Zuiff, Fred Hsiang, Rhonda Freeman and her three hand bell players Mary Stone, Carla Klinger and Sarah Klinger. My hard working friend Debra Terning became the backbone of the concert with her wonderful accompaniment of Holly, the Hand bell ensemble and myself, and I must say that I was in awe of each and everyone's performance. Not every note was perfect, the piano bench was not behaving (unadjustable), the air condition was quite audible at times, but nothing could take away form the love of music and the talent that this group of performers possess, we offered something for most tastes. I am indeed honored to have made music with you all. This will be one of my most treasured moments as a performer! For your information, a copy of the program is further down this note.

I invite everyone to attend this upcoming meeting next week. We will be covering the ins and outs of the upcoming Fall Festival. Because we are at a new venue, it is critical that you attend this meeting to receive information for a very smooth run of the festival. We are indeed very lucky to have three committed women; Paula Wamsley, Sharleen Mancini and Jenny Sutton, running this event. With your help we will have yet one more successful Fall Festival! The program will be a Round Table discussion about Marketing your studio, Studio Policy, "success stories" from your studio, "not so successful stories" from your studio, and anything else you wish to share with your fellow teachers that will help us become stronger teachers.

Our meeting in November will be presided by Renee Holliman, since I will be in Sweden visiting with my new nephew, born in August. The program promises to be spectacular, Fred has arranged with Dr. Francisco Silva & his wife Mirelle to give us a fabulous piano duet program.

A short snippet about our performers.
Dr. Silva was the first pianist ever to perform the Beethoven Sonata Cycle in Georgia. He presented these works in a spellbinding series of eight recitals at the Woodruff Arts Center with much critical acclaim. A sense of drama, poetry, and an instinctive vocal approach to piano playing symbolize the essence of Francisco Silva's interpretations to this day. Mireille Gradeff Silva displays a formidable technique and an affinity with the Romantic repertoire including works by Schumann, Schubert, Rachmaninoff, Chopin and other composers. Her recitals in Brazil, Michigan and several venues in Georgia were greeted with enthusiasm by the audiences. Ms. Silva gave the US premieres of selected works by Bulgarian composers and she collaborates with singers and instrumentalists in chamber music concerts, including 4-hand piano works with her husband, pianist Dr. Francisco Silva.

The sign-up for Celebrate with Music is going real well and can be done via e-mail to Rhonda Freeman, rhofree@aol.com. There are still a few, very limited time slots available, so please add this to your to-do list if you want to have your students play at the mall.

Below is the program list from the concert. See you at the meeting October 13th!

Musically yours,
Maria
